Personal and business papers of the interests of the Labadie and Tucker families, notably Nicholas Labadie, Philip Crosby Tucker Jr., Mary Cecilia Labadie Tucker, Mary Cecilia Tucker, and Philip Crosby Tucker III. This collection includes several letters from Franklin Barlow Sexton regarding a libel suit filed by John Forbes against Nicholas Labadie. In 1859, Labadie published an account of the battle in the Texas Almanac, prompting the suit which was filed in Nacogdoches County and finally dismissed in 1866. Philip Crosby Tucker, Jr.'s papers document his service as a Major on the staff of General John Bankhead Magruder during the Civil War and his affiliation with the Freemasons, having founded the Tucker Lodge No. 297 in Galveston in 1867. Tucker married three times. He married Maria Louise Bryan, a widow, in 1859. She died at New Orleans in 1860. Two years later, he married Mary Cecilia Labadie (1838-1873), daughter of Nicholas D. Labadie. He married his third wife, Isabella Tamer Baldwin, in 1881. Papers of all of Tucker's wives are found in this collection.
