The documents follow the court case "A. Moore et al vs. Ana Maria & Cargo" filed in Galveston to settle a dispute regarding the distribution of funds from the sale of the captured ship Ana Maria. The San Antonio, a 170-ton schooner, had arrived in Galveston in August 1839, and captured the Ana Maria in 1840 while patrolling off the shores of Mexico. The first document is a summons issued to a sheriff ordering him to secure documents related to the case and is dated May 7, 1841. The second document is a filing dated May 13, 1842 ordering P. Edmunds and William T. Brannum to appear and show cause why they have not turned over the balance of money from the sale of the Ana Maria. Brannum was the naval agent for the Republic and was charged with inventorying and dividing the spoils of captured ships. The third document circa 1843 addresses the judge of the first judicial district asking that P. Edmunds and Wm. T. Brannum, et al, appear before the court and "show cause, if any they have, why they refuse to pay said money..." The fourth document, dated June 1, 1844, is the final ruling by the court giving value of the sale of the Ana Maria and goods at.
