Waters Papers contain the personal papers of James S. Waters, an accountant in Galveston who lived on 1116 Church St., and W. A. Waters, who worked for United Dredging Company during the 1930s. James Waters' papers consist of legal contracts regarding oil sales between the Eureka and Hutchins Oil Companies, the sale of the Sour Lake Refinery by the Gulf Coast Oil Company to the Texas Western Oil Company, and the stockholder and board resolutions that led to Galveston-Beaumont Oil Company's dissolution and liquidation of its stocks and assets. Also included are notices to Texas Western stockholders, advertisements for oil companies in the Spindle Top region of Texas, and a contract for an oil lease in Harris County. W. A. Waters' papers contain two layouts and estimates for dredging the Chicot Pass channel in Louisiana, a sketch and letter regarding a faulty cutter used on the dredge "San Diego," and a contract for an oil lease, of which Waters purchased some shares. Finally, the collection also features maps of the Sour Lake oil fields, the Forward Reduction Company oil lands, and a map of Texas, Oklahoma, and the Indian territories. 20210525. English.
