"Schumann was a Galveston artist, originally from Germany. Born in Leipzig, noted Galveston artist, was nationally known for his marine paintings, especially seascapes along the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana. The painting was part of the furnishings of Lloyd's of Galveston Club, 2205 Mechanic. The building was purchased by the Hutchings Sealy Bank when they built a new bank covering the entire block. Born in Germany, Paul R. Schumann (1876-1946), moved to Galveston around 1882 where he received early encouragement in art at school. He was a student of another Galveston artist, Julius Stockfleth, and dabbled with oils, watercolors and crayon. Because most of his subjects are of Galvestonians on their fishing boats or sailing vessels, Schumann is known as an interpreter of the true Texas Gulf Coast.".
