<subfield code="a">"The Rosenberg Fountains: Henry Rosenberg, successful businessman and philanthropist, bequeathed to his adopted city of Galveston [dollar sign]30,000 for the erection of public drinking fountains. Sculptor John Massey Rhind of New York was selected to design and construct the Rosenberg Fountains. His twelve watercolor renderings served as templates for the seventeen fountains that are known to have been built. Completed in 1898, these fountains were made of gray granite with bronze ornamentation for the water inlets. Other features included basins for both people and animals. Over the years, most of the fountains were dismantled or destroyed and used as concrete. Only five had survived intact by 1994. Since then, four more have been found, restored, and moved to different locations. Each fountain bears the inscription, ""Gift of Henry Rosenberg."" Fountain Design G, H, I Three identical fountains, G, H, and I, were constructed with two horse troughs which held up a center drinking basin for people. While there is photographic evidence that the fountains did exists, the locations of each have never been determined. No remnants of any of these three fountains have been discovered.".</subfield>
