The factory produced many award-winning designs and gained international acclaim when it won a gold medal at the 1899 Paris Exhibition. Rookwood designs evolved from ornate Victorian to more modern Art Nouveau and Art Deco. WWII caused a decline in the number and quality of artists at the plant, and it closed in the 1960s.".
