"George Sealy Sr. (1835-1901) came to Galveston in 1857. Rose from shipping clerk in the firm of Ball, Hutchings & Co. to partner in the bank within 10 years. Rescued the G.C. and Santa Fe Railway from failure to union with a system that served half the nation. One of the organizers of the Galveston Cotton Exchange and the commission form of government. One of the owners of the Mallory Steamship Line, organized in 1863; director of many other business enterprises.".
